Having gained a Psychology degree (Bachelor of Science) at Birmingham University, Alexis trained as a teacher at Leeds University. She enjoyed working as a primary school teacher for five years, leading year groups in Key Stages 1 and 2. She has supervised many Trainee Educational Psychologists over the years, most recently working as a Placement Supervisor with the Institute of Education to supervise doctoral training placements.
Alexis has had a diverse career within Educational Psychology, working with children with a wide range of needs and supporting children, families and staff in nurseries, schools and colleges. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team she honed her therapeutic and intervention skills alongside skills in consultation and assessment. She has worked closely with specialist and early years teams, including those specialising in autism, complex pre-school cases and children with visual impairment. Alexis has a particular interest in the development of literacy and maths skills and has worked closely with settings to develop policies, training and intervention protocols in these areas. Alexis is currently a member of the Association of Child Psychologists in Private Practice (ACHIPPP) Special Interest Group in Specific Learning Difficulties.
Alexis is a Chartered Educational Psychologist, registered with the British Psychological Society, a member of the Association of Child Psychologists in Private Practice, Association of Educational Psychologists and of the Health and Care Professions Council (PYL0011).
